A Structured Overlay for Multi-dimensional Range Queries

چکیده
We introduce SONAR, a structured overlay to store and retrieve objects addressed by multi-dimensional names (keys). The overlay has the shape of a multi-dimensional torus, where each node is responsible for a contiguous part of the data space. A uniform distribution of keys on the data space is not necessary, because denser areas get assigned more nodes. To nevertheless support logarithmic routing, SONAR maintains, per dimension, fingers to other nodes, that span an exponentially increasing number of nodes. Most other overlays maintain such fingers in the key-space instead and therefore require a uniform data distribution. SONAR, in contrast, avoids hashing and is therefore able to perform range queries of arbitrary shape in a logarithmic number of routing steps—independent of the number of systemand query-dimensions. SONAR needs just one hop for updating an entry in its routing table: A longer finger is calculated by querying the node referred to by the next shorter finger for its shorter finger. This doubles the number of spanned nodes and leads to exponentially spaced fingers.

On the Design of Semi-structured Multi-star Hybrid-Overlays for Multi-attribute Range Queries
In the past few years, resource discovery is an important mechanism in P2P applications. P2P networks could be categorized into structured and unstructured. In general, structured P2P networks (DHTs) provide efficient keyword search, but is difficult to offer a variety of search modes. Unstructured P2P networks are applied to highly churn P2P networks, but they are inefficient. In this paper, w...
متن کاملA flabellate overlay network for multi-attribute search
Peer-to-peer (P2P) technology provides a popular way of distributing resources, sharing, and locating in a large-scale distributed environment. However, most of the current existing P2P systems only support queries over a single resource attribute, such as file name. The current multiple resource attribute search methods often encounter high maintenance cost and lack of resilience to the highly...
متن کاملRoogle: Supporting Efficient High-Dimensional Range Queries in P2P Systems
Multi-dimensional range query is an important query type and especially useful when the user doesn’t know exactly what he is looking for. However, due to improper indexing method and high routing latency, existing schemes cannot perform well under high-dimensional situations. In this paper, we propose Roogle, a decentralized non-flooding P2P search engine that can efficiently support high-dimen...

Peer-to-peer overlay networks provide a useful infrastructure for building distributed applications. These networks provide efficient and fault-tolerant routing and object locating within a self-organizing overlay network. This paper presents a multi-dimensional overlay network called RAQNet which is based on RAQ. RAQ supports exact match queries and range queries over multi-dimensional data ef...
متن کاملPublish/Subscribe with RDF Data over Large Structured Overlay Networks
We study the problem of evaluating RDF queries over structured overlay networks. We consider the publish/subscribe scenario where nodes subscribe with long-standing queries and receive notifications whenever triples matching their queries are inserted in the network. In this paper we focus on conjunctive multi-predicate queries. We demonstrate that these queries are useful in various modern app...
